I'm a General Manager and I find this ridiculous. I sat in front of him and said we need a plan for my departure. He completely. dismissed it and said he needed a week to gather his thoughts rather than being irrational. How unprofessional and what's the worst he was going to do in anger? Sack me which is illegal anyway? Anyway, it's a week ago today

and we have a meeting this morning that I arranged to discuss it further. Honestly never known anything like it. UPDATE My manager said he'd sat on it for a while and decided he was still upset and disappointed but he had my replacement ready and she's starting on Monday AND as a COO which is higher paid than my position. I'm SO glad I handed in my notice. The next 7 weeks

LevelEfficiency 1772 I think the only way to view this is that manager has lost the company 1 week of professional handover. He has hurt the company with his unprofessional attitude. Make sure you're not pressured or stressed during this resignation period, due to "losing a week".

Sad-Educator-4547 "no problem, that's what the weeks notice is for. Bye" You're giving them notice, not asking them to accept notice.

Chair_luger What country are you in and what are the contract rules there? In the US usually people just give two weeks notice and if a manager does not want to make good use of that time then that is is the companies problem.

No-Disaster-1345 My gm quit with a month notice and the owners wouldn't talk to her the whole time. Suddenly went from relying on her for everything to pretending she didn't exist. She did her best to prepare our agm to move up during that time. When she hung out at our shop after before picking up her kid who worked there she ended up banned for 90 days, no reason given. P ed off the whole staff who missed her. A higher up

cyanicpsion He has the time to think and plan. That time started when you handed in your resignation. What he decides to do with this time isn't your concern

nwood 1973 Your boss seems to have misunderstood your notice letter as being optional. The clock is ticking as soon as he gets given it so if your notice was 1 month, it is now 3 weeks. His unprofessional attitude will not affect your notice - nothing he says or does will change that. You have notified him but make sure you copy HR in if applicable (as they are the ones that will actually
